Leuchtturm1917 (80 gsm)

Leuchtturm1917 is a German brand founded in 1904. It is a brand loved by many and their notebooks are easy accessible in many countries.

Sizes

The books seen in this picture are in the sizes A5 and A6. They also have other sizes available. The A5 model in the picture is a Bullet journal edition 1 (it is not available anymore but the paper is the same as the A5 notebook).

Worth to mention is that the A6 is not a true A6 size.

The measurements for this is: 9 cm (about 3,5 inches) wide and 15 cm (about 5,9 inches) tall. So its height is the same as an true A6 but it is more slim in width.

Covers and colors

Leuchtturm1917 offers two different kind of covers – one hard cover and one soft cover. The covers are made with synthetic leather and to my experience seems to hold the test of time well.

Both the hard cover and the soft cover and all sizes comes with an elastic closure band and two bookmarks.

Something to note is that the soft cover do hold less pages than the hard cover although the prices seem to be pretty much the same.

The A5 is the most common size and is offered in many vibrant and beautiful colors. The other sizes offers a smaller range of colors.

prize

As mentioned above these notebook are available at many places. To keep it simple I will just mention the prices on these notebooks at Leuchtturm1917’s own website:

$24.50 (A5 hard cover)

$22.95 (A5 soft cover)

$18.50 (A6 hard cover)

$16.50 (A6 soft cover)

paper

The paper is 80 gsm and ivory coloured.

Most of the sizes offers different ruling options; ruled, plain, dotted and squared.

The paper is a little bit textured and if you don’t like feeling a little bit of response when your pen glides over the paper – these notebooks may not be for you.

Ghosting/bleed through

This paper is prone to ghosting as the 80 gsm is not that thick. Especially seen with darker colors. Most inks will not bleed through but watch out for more juicy inks as it might bleed trough.

I tried several different fountain pen inks on this paper and non of my inks bleed trough but something to have in mind is that most of my fountain pens has a fine or extra fine nib as that is what I prefer.

Summary

This is a really good notebook and it is absolutely worth its price in my opinion.

The cover is durable and the paper is thin but stands up to many challenges.

Please let me know in the comment section what you think about Leuchtturm’s notebooks! 🙂
